The Selection Process

Full-time Faculty & Classified Positions

Incomplete application packages are not considered. All required materials must be received by the stated deadline. Submission of materials is the applicant's responsibility. All documents included in your application file become the property of Porterville College/Kern Community College District and will not be returned. Materials submitted for an opening will not be considered for future openings or for openings at other colleges within the district. If an applicant is interested in multiple positions, new documents constituting a completed application package must be submitted for each opening. Copies of original documents are acceptable for the application process.

The screening of candidates will be conducted by a screening committee of college representatives. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not assure the applicant an interview.

Interview of semi-finalists will be conducted by the screening committee. The screening committee reserves the right to limit the number of interviews granted.

Interviews are held at Porterville College and will be conducted after the filing deadline.

Second interviews will be required for selected candidates. Travel costs related to an interview will be borne by the applicant. Applicants who are eliminated from final consideration during the selection procedure will be notified by email (or letter).

The College reserves the right to contact the current or most recent employer and to investigate past employment records of applicants selected for interviews.

Candidates should not expect official notification of the status of their candidacy until the Board of Trustees has acted upon the College's recommendation for employment.

Full-time Faculty Positions

Consideration will be given to factors other than education and experience including, but not limited to, degree of demonstration of sensitivity to diversity, professional development, ability to work with students, faculty and community groups; past and current involvement in activities which promote the professional image of teaching in the campus community.

A demonstration of teaching technique will be required as part of the scheduled interview.
