Important Changes Regarding Financial Aid
There are many changes to financial aid programs that may affect you due to updates in Federal and State regulations. Below you will find a summary of the changes for the 2012-2013 school year. These new requirements apply to all students unless otherwise indicated.
You should review these changes carefully and plan ahead for your educational future. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Porterville College Financial Aid Office at (559) 791-2301.
• ENROLLMENT FEE INCREASE
Beginning with Summer 2012, the enrollment fee has increased to $46 per unit.
• INCREASE IN THE MINIMUM NEED REQUIRED FOR A BOG C FEE WAIVER BASED ON THE FAFSA
The amount of "financial need" to receive a BOG C Fee Waiver will change from $1 to
$1288. Need is determined by subtracting the Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) from the full year Cost of Attendance (COA) or Student Budget. The formula is COA minus
EFC equals Need which must be $1288 or greater.
• DECREASE IN THE MAXIMUM LIFETIME ELIGIBILITY FOR A PELL GRANT
The maximum lifetime eligibility to receive a Pell Grant (without earning a Bachelor's
Degree) has changed from 9 full years to 6 full years. It is very likely that some students will have exceeded the 6 year limit and will no longer be eligible for a Pell Grant after July 1.
• ELIMINATION OF THE ABILITY TO BENEFIT (ATB) PROVISIONS
Students enrolling for the first time after July 1, 2012 must have a High School Diploma,
GED, or state equivalent to be eligible for any federal financial aid. Students will no longer have the option to pass an ATB test or to successfully complete 6 core/degree applicable units to gain eligibility for federal financial aid.
• IRS TAX TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED
Students that do not use the IRS Data Retrieval when completing their FAFSA online and
who must verify their tax and income information must provide an IRS Tax Transcript to our office. We can no longer accept copies of federal tax returns (1040EZ, 1040A, 1040). To request an IRS Tax Transcript, students can call 1-800-908-9946 or order it online at http://www.irs.gov/ and under the "Tools" section select "Order a Return or Account Transcript".

The Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy has changed for the 2012-2013 school
year. The SAP standards have been strengthened and the appeal processes as well as the
reinstatement process are now enforced more rigorously. Students who appealed and were approved for the Fall 2011 semester must meet the new SAP standards and any conditions set by the appeal decision or they will be disqualified again. Please view the new SAP Policy located at http://www.portervillecollege.edu/student-services/financial_aid/academic.html.
• APPEAL FORMS
Appeal forms can be downloaded and printed from our website at
http://www.portervillecollege.edu/student-services/financial_aid/forms.html. Important Reminder: If you are appealing your financial aid for the fall, appeal forms can only be submitted once you are enrolled in classes for the Fall 2012 semester. Appeal reviews will not begin until September and may take up to four weeks for a decision.

FAFSA INFORMATION NOT IN OUR DATABASE
If you have completed and submitted your FAFSA and you have not received any letter or email from our office, we probably are unable to process and download your FAFSA. This may be because:
- You have not yet filed an admissions application with Porterville College or
- You have an admissions application on file but your Name, Date of Birth or Social Security Number is not matching what was listed on your FAFSA application.
To file an admissions application, please log on to https://banweb.kccd.edu and follow the application instructions. Complete the Admissions Application using your personal information as it appears on your Social Security Card. You must provide your Social Security Number on the Admissions Application or our office will not be able to process your FAFSA application. Once you have submitted your admissions application, or updated your current admissions application, your FAFSA will be compared to your admissions application. If your Social Security Number matches, your FAFSA will be downloaded and we can begin processing your FAFSA. The download of your FAFSA may take up to two weeks depending on when you completed or updated your admissions application. If you have any questions, please contact your campus Financial Aid Office.
